E News Letter May 2010

This is an occasional newsletter aimed at all Leaders in  Rossendale.

First let me say a big thank you for all those who turned out last Sunday for St. Georges Day. What a splendid site to see the church ‘standing room only’ and to hear the buzz as the young people left the church. A special thank you to the Band, to Peters Music group and to all the young people who help lead the service.

BOWLEY

For those who don’t yet know due to serious financial cut backs at County the wardens at Bowley have been made redundant and finish on 30th. April 2010. The site will be run by volunteer wardens and the County are on the look out for volunteers. Volunteers are needed for weekdays in the Bowley Office, weeknights and for weekend duties. If you can help then please contact the County Office on

countyoffice@eastlancashirescouts.org.uk

Very exciting things are happening at Bowley just go and have a look. The partnership with Hillclimb has started and they have already installed a lot of their equipment including a Zip Line down the Lodge Field, a Jacobs Ladder, a Leap of faith and a ropes course. They will use it during the week and it will normaly be available for scouts at weekends. First we need to train our instructors so if you would like to be involved in this exciting new venture and are willing to become an

instructor then contact County Office as soon as possible.

FACEBOOK

For those who don’t know it’s an internet social networking site. Please read the article in this months Scouting Magazine. In particular no photos of our young people must be put on Facebook without express persmission of their parents and their names must not be mentioned.

ACTIVITY PERMITS

So that we can update everybody’s record if you hold any activity permots ie. Nights away, shooting, archery, hill walking or any other adventurous activities then please let me know. On johnmdavey@btinternet.com.

SAFEGUARDING (Child Protection)

Joanne Carey is the County Safeguarding Adviser. The County can support anti bullying. Every adult member will be required to complete Safeguarding  training every 5 years. There will be a choice of an online course from NSPCC or a short course run at County and hopefully in the District.

That’s all for now
