Launch of Rossendale Explorer Interact Club
On Thursday the 1st July 2010 Rossendale Explorers participated in the launch of Rossendale Explorer Interact Club at . This a partnership with Rossendale Rotary Interact Club and Rossendale District Scout Council. The purpose of the partnership is to build on commonality between the two organisations in terms of membership and the valuing of citizenship.
Guests representing Rotary included John Doherty Youth Opportunities Officer for Bacup Rotary Club, President of Rossendale Rotary Club Leonard Green, President of Bacup Rotary Club Nicholas Stratton and the members of Bacup and Rossendale Rotary clubs. The Scout Association was represented by John Davey District Commissioner for Scouting in Rossendale , Nick Green District Explorer Commissioner and East Lancashire Scouts County Commissioner Glen Fendall and Leaders and Explorers from Rossendale Scouts.
Rossendale Explorer Interact Club will get involved in service to the community, doing that something special to help others. In practice the Explorers will complete two community projects in the scouting year, these will be part of the programme of events and activities that Explorers participate in.
The projects chosen for this year are a) to organise and despatch the supply of surplus secondary school books( English, Maths, Science) to the poor schools of the Eshowe district in South Africa and to service the message in a box/ bottle scheme for the housebound in Rossendale. These will involve key elements of team building, planning and preparation.
