Rossendale's St George's Day Parade

Sunday 10th April saw Rossendale Scouts celebrating St George and Scouting by holding their annual St George’s Day Parade.

The parade began at the top of Bank Street in Rawtenstall down to St Mary’s Church in Rawtenstall. Young people and Leaders from the 8 Scout Groups in Rossendale along with the Rossendale Mayor Trevor Unsworth and MP Graham Jones paraded, with St John’s Scout Band leading the parade. Following the parade a service took place in St Mary’s Church. Over 300 members of the movement and their families

The service included members renewing their promise and Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and an Explorer Scout receiving their top awards. A number of the Leaders, providing Scouting activities for the young people of Rossendale also received Good Service Awards from the Scout Association. The Awards that were awarded were the Award of Merit and the Silver Acorn, these awards are awarded after at least 12 years of good service. The Awards were presented to the Leaders by Glen Fendall (East Lancashire County Commissioner).The dedicated leaders of Scouting in Rossendale have given over 1109 years of service to the movement.
